Black Hills State University Senior Art Show 2026
This three-part series was created over the course of several months and seeks to contrast the quiet fierceness of defiance with the bold color of longing and thirst for the very thing being defied. “Utmana,” the second piece in the series, is dedicated to the late John Aberle, who will be greatly missed.

Special Project: Moccasins for My Mom
This project was created for and dedicated to my mother. From start to finish, these moccasins took a total of 87 hours to make. The final design includes beaded detailing on every surface panel, as well as on the laces and the edging of the moccasins. They were an assignment for a college course, but became a highly personal project.
~The Process~
“The beading process starts on a flat piece of leather, laid out and cut to size. I came up with their designs in collaboration with their father. I chose to use these colors because they’re my mom’s favorites. I drew out the design for the tipi on the toe of both moccasins. This was the start of my beading process, with each bead’s location calculated out and meticulously placed.”
“When it came time to start beading the sides, I abandoned my original plan and instead decided to freehand the floral motifs. The stars added in the finishing touches, and all that was left to do was assemble the moccasins themselves.”
